At LVS Hassocks, we support our pupils to develop calming strategies suited to the individual to help deal with increased anxiety. Our on-site Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT), Occupational Therapist (OT) and therapy assistant support pupils on a daily basis.
Our Therapy is integrated across the curriculum, with pupils able to access specialist (1:1), targeted (group work) and a universal provision (blended across the curriculum).
All pupils have access to support from the occupational therapy team in school to help develop life skills through a programme that follows a ‘small steps’ approach, meaning pupils may begin with role play activities in small groups to develop their confidence in different social situations, such as ordering in a restaurant.
Occupational therapy in schools is integrated into a pupil’s daily routine either in individual sessions or group sessions. We conduct these sessions during lesson time to offer the additional practice of skills. Some pupils may not require individual therapy sessions but may take part in the group sessions. The same process applies to our speech and language therapy sessions
The ultimate goal is for pupils to increase skills of independence and become more confident in accessing the local community.
