At LVS Hassocks, we support our students to develop calming strategies suited to the individual to help deal with increased anxiety. Our on-site Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT), Occupational Therapist (OT) and therapy assistant support students on a daily basis.
Our Therapy is integrated across the curriculum, with students able to access specialist (1:1), targeted (group work) and a universal provision (blended across the curriculum).
All students have access to support from the occupational therapy team in our SEN school to help develop life skills through a programme that follows a ‘small steps’ approach, meaning students may begin with role play activities in small groups to develop their confidence in different social situations, such as ordering in a restaurant.
Occupational therapy in schools is integrated into a student’s daily routine either in individual sessions or group sessions. We conduct these sessions during lesson time to offer the additional practice of skills. Some students may not require individual therapy sessions but may take part in the group sessions. The same process applies to our speech and language therapy sessions.
The ultimate goal is for students with special needs to increase skills of independence and become more confident in accessing the local community.
