Students took part in a range of workshops, learning how to give a self-massage lead by our very own massage therapist Mandy Simmerling.
We were lucky to have Gabrielle Rafello from the Koorana Centre who came in to run a series of workshops about colour therapy and relaxation techniques. After the sessions the most common comment from students and some staff! was “I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep”.
Throughout the day we had creative workshops making rustic wind chimes, outside at Forest School and dream catchers. Students also painted pebbles to make a whole school collage. It was really wonderful to see that a student who never normally goes outside for learning sessions, went out to take part in making a wind chime, then later requested if he could go out again to finish his wind chime.
Food tech got involved in the day with making healthy Halloween treats, students got to try a rather delicious pumpkin cake and other tasty treats.
During the morning many students had a Yoga session run by our OT Mel Campbell, where they learnt some basic moves, like the downward dog, the tree pose and the lotus. One student’s comment was “I wasn’t very bendy- look at me; I am wobbling all over the place”
Leanne Jarvis said: “Although it takes a lot of planning to put these days together, it is always worth it when you see children enjoying a new experience, especially ones that they will really benefit from.”
