Cakes, crafts and comedy were the main ingredients for LVS Hassocks Christmas sharing event that took place on the last day of term. Students from across all class groups contributed to the festive fun, from baking cakes and decorating flower pots, to making crackers, gift wrapping sweets and making stocking filler presents. The afternoon was well supported by parents and guests from the local community, who helped the students raise over £200 for their chosen charity - F.R.O.D.O. a charity which hels disabled orphans in Romania.
Apart from the lucky dip – with a prize every time, the highlight of the afternoon was the entertainment. Each class performed their own piece, which included Christmas songs, ‘Talking Turkey’ poems, a sketch on the meaning of Christmas, as well as individual and duo acts. These brave entertainers told jokes, performed card tricks and sang songs. Those not so keen to take part were involved in making the spectacular backdrop. Their creative skills and the enthusiasm from all the students produced an amazing show.
Assistant Headteacher, Jackie Doe, who worked hard with staff and students to bring the event together, was delighted with how so many of the students overcame their nerves and anxieties, she commented: “to see them up on stage, performing in front of so many people is heart warming, especially as some of them only joined the school in September. Watching their confidence grow and the ability to work with others is very rewarding, not only for us but their parents too.”
