LVS Hassocks received an ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted following their welfare inspection December 2011. The team looked at the residential aspect of the school and in the report, inspectors commented: “This residential special school provides outstanding residential provision, where pupils thrive within a nurturing environment which clearly focuses on their individuality.”
The commitment and quality of the staff was recognised in the report, commenting on how staff “work together to help pupils achieve, and in many cases exceed, their potential”.
Following LVS Hassocks Ofsted inspection in October 2010, the report gave the school a ‘good’ report with ‘outstanding’ in many areas including the students’ behaviour and attitude.
The report complimented the school on the quality of the education, recognising the staff understanding of its students’ special needs and commented that “students make good progress in their learning because they are taught well and follow a good, creative and innovative curriculum”.
The students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development was judged to be outstanding by Ofsted, as was the provision for students’ welfare, health and safety. The report goes on to say that “the school's meticulous attention to detail, reflected in its child protection and safeguarding polices, ensures that students work and live in a very safe and secure environment."
Having recently completed a 2 year refurbishment programme it was pleasing to note that the inspectors recognised that the residential provision as an outstanding facility. They also remarked how the extensive grounds “provide many opportunities for students to learn, play and relax safely.”
